Education and mediator testing
Invest in your knowledge – it always stays with you!
What sets the Chamber of Mediators of Serbia apart from other associations of mediators is permanent work with mediators, ongoing education prescribed by the State, but also additional education, practice for mediators and mandatory periodic mediator testing.
The time of mediation in full light is coming soon, it is expected that it will become mandatory as in the countries of the region, and then real mediators will be asked for a higher ticket. The goal of the Chamber of Mediators of Serbia is to have in its team the best quality mediators who have been working on themselves and their personal development and professional growth for a long time.
Mediators who have completed all the necessary educations prescribed by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia, but about additional educations conducted by the Chamber of Mediators of Serbia, which serve to advance and educationally broaden knowledge of all the postulates of mediation in order to be in one place in the register of mediators on the website of the Chamber of Mediators Serbia could find the best mediators.
That is why the Chamber of Mediators of Serbia introduced mandatory mediator testing every 6 months, in order to encourage them to constantly work, read and improve, and then when the moment comes, the Chamber of Mediators of Serbia stands behind its mediators and guarantees their work. Only by constant work, permanent learning, reading new information needed by mediators, our mediators can progress and maintain the qualities that the parties deserve.
There are several different approaches to mediator testing. One of the most common approaches is the evaluation of the mediator through feedback from the parties who participated in the mediation. This method is based on asking the parties about their impressions of the mediator, his approach and his effectiveness.
Another approach to mediator testing is mediating transcript analysis. This approach is based on the analysis of the conversations between the mediator and the parties during the mediation. Analyzing the transcript allows the evaluator to see how the mediator managed the conversation, how he asked questions, and how he helped the parties reach an agreement.
A third approach to mediator testing is through videotaped mediation. This approach allows the evaluator to see not only the conversation between the mediator and the parties, but also their nonverbal communication, such as gestures and facial expressions.
Mediator testing is an important process that helps verify the quality of the mediation and the effectiveness of the mediator. These processes help ensure that the parties are satisfied with the mediation and that the agreements reached are lasting.
Advanced training for mediators
The Chamber of Mediators of Serbia provides its members with an additional school for mediators who want to learn more and more about mediation, which lasts 12 weeks and is free for all members of the chamber.
This type of additional education of mediators proved to be very useful, because it further elaborates the most important segments of mediation and emphasizes the three modules that are conducted during the 12 weeks of education.
The first module is one of the most important categories and segments of mediation and teaches mediators how to properly present themselves to the parties to mediation and leave a favorable first impression, to provide additional security to participants, encouraging them to be at the right address when their problem in question.
Sometimes it seems easy to introduce yourself to someone briefly, but try it yourself and you will see how many exercises are needed to make a good impression with the presentation. Among other things, mediators learn how to overcome anxiety, how to relax the parties in the procedure and many other tech-nical details needed by mediators to start mediation in the right way, but also lead to a favorable solution for all participants in mediation.
The second module elaborates the part related to the skills that a mediator should have in the field of psychology, microexpression, body language, recognizing situations that can escalate into conflict, as well as leveling such situations and directing mediation to solving problems. This module is very important for beginners in mediation, because, among other things, it solves the fear of public appearance, and additionally solves the mediator’s fear of failure. By combining different techniques, mediators practice and gain addi-tional confidence in the proper conduct of the mediation process at each session. This module helps mediators to properly allocate time for their presentation, but also for presenting their views on the problems of each party to the proceedings.
The third module is based on the practical part, where by simulating mediation, we put the mediator in all possible unforeseen situations and instruct him to independently solve problems that could potentially occur in each session. This, as well as other modules, in the first part teaches the mediator how to set up and cope with specific situations, and through theoretical and practical exercises directs the mediator to master the material in the right way. This part is a kind of practice in mediation and is very useful for mediators who would like to try to be mediators once again, in front of our team, so as not to make any of the crucial mistakes in real mediation.
Mediators who pass the final exam receive 3 stars, which are clearly highlighted on our website, and interested parties who want to hire them as mediators know how much each of the mediators has progressed in their personal education.
Basic training carries one star, one the specialized training has one star, and this advanced training has 3 stars because it lasts longer and requires maximum commitment from the candidate in order to master it.
